Dances are generally taken as cultural material for entertainment with no other values. In this paper, the writers have carefully examined a number of other ways Nigerian dances have been employed in the contemporary times. The paper has argued that Nigerian dances can be used for much more than entertainment and concluded that already, Nigerian dances have been used successfully for cultural diplomacy in a number of nations and as such this should be upheld.

Abstract

The study investigated the social economic and educational implications of parental separation on upbringing of school children. The study was a descriptive research design of the survey type. The population was made up of all the adolescents within the age range of 13 – 18 years in Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area. A sample of 207 and 329 were selected using simple random sampling and multistage sampling technique. The final sample was chosen using stratified random sampling technique. A self-designed instrument titled “Divorce and Child Upbringing Scale (DCUS)” was used for collecting data. The instrument’s face and content validity was ensured by relevant experts. A reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained through test retest reliability method. The 2 hypotheses postulated were tested using chi square (X2). It was revealed that respondents from rich and poor homes do not differ in their upbringing due to economic status of their separate parents. Also the educational status of separated parents does not influence their children upbringing. It was recommended that separated parents should be enlightened about who and how to take care of the children so that they don’t suffer emotional deprivation. Children from separated homes should be allowed to contact both parents without restriction. Separated parents should seek support and counselling that will enable them receive therapy that will reduce their transference of negative emotions to the children and relations.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out how women manage credit in rural district in Ghana and examine the relationship between credit management and age and educational level of women. One hundred and eighty-three respondents were randomly selected from four different groups of women engaged in small scale businesses in rural communities in Ghana. Data was collected with structured interview schedule. The results were analyzed and presented in frequency, percentage; mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression tables. Findings revealed that most of the women sourced credit from informal sources such as friends, family members and credited items from wholesalers. The women lacked proper credit management skills and therefore managed credit sourced in their own informal ways such through daily ‘susu’ contribution, kept sales of various items sold in different containers and records of purchases and sales kept in memory and set money aside for replacing equipment. Also, they managed to honour repayment because it was upon regular payments agreement of credit that more credit was given to keep them in business. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the micro-credit financial institutions and the local government who offer credit to such small scale businesses as well as the universities should organize credit management programmes as part of their community service to train the women on skills in record keeping, savings and the application of principles of credit management especially budgeting in order to effectively manage credit sourced.
